Pumped Hydro Storage Often Regarded As The Appropriate Provider

Electric power systems that use hydroelectric energy storage for load balancing are known as “Pumped Hydro Storage” (PHS). It is a set-up of two water reservoirs at various altitudes that can produce power as water flows through a turbine as it discharges from one reservoir to the other. Several advantages, including peak shaving, frequency management, load balancing, backup reserves, black start capability, etc., are offered by pumped storage hydro facilities. Due to their intrinsic flexibility, they also provide very quick ramping up/down and peak/off-peak balancing support. Pumped Hydro Storage is therefore often regarded as the appropriate provider of regulation and contingency reserve ancillary services, assisting in managing the grid integration of renewable energy sources.
