To mitigate the potential risks associated with biocides, several regulatory frameworks have been established to regulate their use. In Europe, the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) was introduced in 2013 to regulate the production, sale, and use of biocides. The BPR also requires Biocides to be labeled with information on their composition and use, and to be stored and transported in a safe manner.
In the United States, Biocides are regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). FIFRA requires biocides to be registered with the EPA and to undergo a rigorous evaluation process before they can be marketed and used.
